Question Details

Answer

Course reserves is a library service where instructors can request physical or digital library resources to be made available for their courses. The list of reserved materials will show up as citations in the Library Course Materials page in Canvas. Instructors are able to add, rearrange, and delete citations in the page.

Both physical and digital items can be placed on reserve. Filling out the correct form on the Course Reserves for Faculty page on the library website will begin the process of adding items, which can take between 1 and 4 days. Library-owned items and personal copies of books and DVDs can be placed on physical reserve, while direct links to library eresources, as well as PDF scans of book chapters and articles can be put on digital reserve. PDFs are subject to copyright law, more information can be found at the Course Reserves for Faculty Page.

Students are able to access digital materials directly through their Canvas course. They are able to check out physical items by requesting an item by title at the library circulation desk. Physical items are available for 3 hours or 1 day, depending on how long the instructor has determined the checkout period to be.

More information can be found on the Course Reserves for Faculty page, and the Frequently Asked Questions - Course Reserves page of the library website.
